If you're going to be drink tea, you'll need to boil water. Electric tea kettles are more energy efficient than stove top, and the newer variety that lift off the base with no attached wire are very convenient.

I personally recommend you stay away from any plastic vessel. Plastic often imparts some flavor (that means you're drinking plastic, right?)and most likely plastic bad for your long term health. Definitely, plastic is bad for the environment.

For the very best flavor many people stand by ceramic tea kettles. I too really enjoy ceramic kettles, but the truth is that they are less efficient (stove top) and in daily use they are much more prone to break.
